This project involved designing a contemporary movie poster for Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, based on the novel by Patrick Süskind. The poster visually interprets the key themes of the story—possession, duality, and the presence of death—through a modern, minimalist lens. The design captures the essence of the protagonist’s obsession and the haunting atmosphere of the narrative while maintaining a sense of elegance and intrigue.

The design is driven by three central themes: possession, duality, and the presence of death. I approached this by using symbolic imagery and minimalist elements that convey the protagonist’s dark journey. The interplay between light and shadow was central to illustrating duality, reflecting the internal conflict of the main character. For possession, I incorporated subtle textures and forms that allude to the protagonist’s desire to capture the essence of others. The presence of death is represented through muted tones and abstract shapes, giving the poster a chilling yet captivating aesthetic.
The poster was designed to evoke a sense of mystery and tension, inviting the audience to dive into the unsettling world of Perfume. Balancing modern typography with symbolic visuals, the piece avoids overt references to traditional movie posters, opting instead for a more artistic, metaphorical approach.
